The historical goals of Oy TiliTuli Ltd. are places where the Finnish military units operated, fighting off the massive Russian attacks during the Winter War 1939-1940 and the Continuation War 1941-1944; the Finnish units prepared here for the heaviest fights to defend the independence of Finland.
The most famous military unit was probably the 7th Infantry Regiment in the 2nd Division, commanded by Jaeger Colonel Armas Kemppi and later by Lieutenant-Colonel Adolf Ehrnrooth; this “Tyrjä Regiment” crossed the national border in Parikkala on 30.06.1941 at 7 PM, advancing east of lake Tyrjä towards the Tyrjä village. Oy TiliTuli Ltd. intends to organize limited expeditions to the Russian side as well. One of our intended goals is the Elisenvaara railway station and its environs near the border; during the war, it was an important railway junction and the scene of the most excessive bombardment of Finnish civilians on 20.06.1944. Another goal will be the Tyrjä village that witnessed some of the most ferocious battles in the Continuation War in the summer of 1941. |
